Opening of exhibitions:

  • Exhibition of the Architects’ Council of Europe – good examples from the regeneration of the built environment in Europe
  • Exhibition – competition – projects in all fields of architecture – prizes are not monetary – more details and requirements will be published soon
  • Exhibition about the history of INTERARCH
  • Exhibition with diploma projects of students in architecture from Bulgaria

Day 2 – 16.10.2026 

PRELIMINARY PROGRAM AND LECTURERS OF THE CONFERENCE

„European policies in architecture – holistic approach to a world in transition“ 

Venue – UACEG, Aula Maxima – 1 Hristo Smirnenski Blvd., Sofia

The conference is held in English and Bulgarian – simultaneous translation will be provided.

The conference is free for all Bulgarian and foreign architects and architecture students

08:00-09:30 – registration at UACEG and getting simultaneous translation devices from/to English to/from Bulgarian

09:30 – 10:15- opening – greetings from official guests and authorities from abroad and from Bulgaria

10:15 – 12:50 – Panel 1 – deals with European policies on the built environment and affordable housing

● Daniel Fuegenschuh (Austria), President of ACE – 10 min. Introduction to European Policies in Architecture

● Representative of the European Committee of the Regions – 10 min. Introduction to the New European Bauhaus

● Jean-Philippe Vassal of Lacaton & Vassal (France), 2021 Pritzker Prize Laureate – Transforming what exists allows us to design new ways of living that are more pleasant, unconventional, and more economical.”– 35 min – author’s presentation

● Eugen Panescou- Romania- „Quality of affordable housing in Europe and the strength of architectural policies“ – 25 min.

● Lecturer from Bulgaria – to be specified – 25 min.- „Housing Strategies and the Renovation of the Built Environment in Bulgaria.

●Yasmin Shariff (United Kingdom) – „Critical Architecture, Nature and Magic: Transformational Design for Recovery“- 25 min.

● Prof. Arch. Todor Krastev (Bulgaria)- Policies for the Architecture of Memory– 25 min.

14:30-16:25 – Panel 2 – deals with European policies on urban planning, innovative practices for urban management and preserving people’s health

● Petar Dikov (Bulgaria) – President of the Union of Architects in Bulgaria- „Urban planning regulations and environmental quality“ – 25 min.

●  José Luis Cortes Delgado (Mexico) – former President of UIA – „Circular economy“- 25 min.

● Didier Vancutsem (Germany) – „Towards Resilient Urban Landscapes with the Systems Thinking Approach – A European experience“ – 25 min.

● Henning Lensch (Germany) – expert in the field of healthcare facilities and healthy public spaces –“Healthcare Facilities in Healthy Cities – the European Approach”- 25 min.

● Questions and answers – 20 min. – 2 min. per question, 4 min. per answer

16:35- 17:20 – Panel 3 – round table discussion on Architectural Competitions as a tool for high quality of the built environment and urban spaces. Moderator – the President of ACE Daniel Fuegenschuh – total duration 50 min.

17:25 -18:00 – final declaration of the conference, closing and announcement of the awards of the exhibition– competition

19:30 – Farewell party – at the Central House of Architects, 11 Krakra Street .
